When they were known as monstrous Kaiju, started rising from the sea, a war began that would take millions of lives and consume resources humanitys for years on end. To combat the giant Kaiju, there was a special kind of weapon invented: massive robots, called Jaegers, which are controlled together by two pilots whose minds are locked in a neural bridge. But even Jaegers are proving almost defensive in the face of relentless Kaiju. On the brink of defeat, the forces defending mankind have no other choice but to turn to two unlikely heroes - a washed up former pilot (Charlie Hunnam) and untested trainee (Rinko Kikuchi) - who teamed up to drive legendary but seemingly obsolete Jaeger's past.
